The sticky situation began when deputies conducted a traffic stop of Prince Frederick resident Barbara Ann Magruder, 46, after she made multiple traffic violations in the area of Fairground Road.
During the stop, a bag containing Alprazolam was observed in plain view, and Magruder advised investigators that she had just exchanged pills with a woman identified as Kimberly Marie Hamm in a red Pontiac.
Further investigation led to the recovery of a cut plastic straw with residue, a dollar bill containing a blue powder, and a clear plastic Ziploc style bag containing a white residue in Magruder's vehicle, and she was taken into custody.
Magruder was charged with
- CDS: Distribution;
- CDS: Possession-not cannabis;
- CDS: Possession of paraphernalia;
- CDS: Possession with intent to distribute narcotics
Investigators were just getting started.
Moments after that arrest, detectives probing the incident spotted Hamm's red Pontiac in the area of the Safeway gas station on West Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick with a damaged windshield.
Hamm, 44, and her driver, William O'Brian Kennedy, 45, both of Chesapeake Beach, were found inside.
The investigation determined that Hamm met with Magruder and exchanged pills.
A K9 search of their vehicle revealed a pill bottle of Alprazolam (the same pills seized from Magruder), 36 Ambien pills, a Suboxone strip, a cut straw with white residue, two Oxycodone pills and three cell phones.
A search of Kennedy revealed a cut plastic straw as well as a plastic container containing a white powdery residue (suspected Oxycodone).
Kennedy was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with CDS: Possession of paraphernalia and CDS: Possession-not cannabis.
Hamm was transported and charged with:
- CDS: Distribution;
- CDS: Possession with intent to distribute;
- CDS: Possession-not cannabis;
- CDS: Possession of paraphernalia.
No details about their pending court appearances have been released by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office.
